The exchange rate is a link in linking international economic relations, and represents one of the main pillars in directing all foreign transactions of countries, as it reflects the economic situation of any country externally and internally, and that the exchange rate is of great importance to most global economies as it directly affects the macroeconomic variables In addition, its impact on the volume of foreign trade and the status of the country’s trade balance, so the research dealt with measuring the impact of the exchange rate on the balance of payments in Iraq for the period (2004-2019),The problem of the research was to measure the effectiveness of the impact of the Iraqi dinar exchange rate on the balance of payments during the research period, and the effectiveness of the policy of the Central Bank of Iraq to limit the rise in exchange rates to achieve monetary stability, and the exchange rate variable is considered as one of the most important tools of effective monetary policy to protect the Iraqi economy Among the external shocks that it may be exposed to, is that Iraq is one of the countries that depend heavily on oil exports. This research aims to identify the impact of the Iraqi dinar exchange rate against the US dollar on the Iraqi balance of payments during the period. (2004-2019)
